NEW YORK, March 2, 2026, 10:17 ET — Regular session
- AMD shares fell about 2.5% in morning trade after the company unveiled new Ryzen AI desktop processors.
- A broader tech-led pullback kept buyers on the sidelines despite fresh product news.
- Investors are watching Mobile World Congress updates and Friday’s U.S. jobs report.
Advanced Micro Devices shares fell on Monday, down about 2.5% at $195.14 by mid-morning in New York, after the chipmaker rolled out new Ryzen AI desktop processors at Mobile World Congress. 1
The move matters because AMD is trying to turn “AI PC” talk into actual upgrades and unit demand. Wall Street has rewarded data-center AI winners, but the client PC story still needs proof in shipments and margins.
It also hit on an ugly tape. U.S. stocks opened lower as investors weighed an escalating Middle East conflict and the risk that higher energy costs keep inflation sticky. 2
AMD said it launched Ryzen AI 400 Series and Ryzen AI PRO 400 Series desktop processors with support for Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC experiences. It said the chips include a neural processing unit that can deliver up to 50 TOPS — “trillions of operations per second,” a common yardstick for on-device AI throughput. “The desktop PC is evolving from a tool you use to an intelligent assistant that works alongside you,” said Jack Huynh, a senior vice president who runs AMD’s Computing and Graphics Group. 3
The company said AM5 desktop systems using the new processors are expected to be available starting in the second quarter, from OEMs including HP and Lenovo, and that Ryzen AI PRO 400 Series parts will also reach mobile workstations from Dell, HP and Lenovo.
The market response was mixed across semiconductors. Nvidia was up about 1.5% in the same window, while Intel traded lower. Investors have been quick to cut exposure to anything that looks “consumer cycle” when geopolitics starts to dominate the screen. 1
Still, there’s a catch. AI features on the box do not guarantee a replacement wave, and PC demand can slip fast if businesses freeze budgets or consumers pull back. If the conflict pushes fuel costs higher for longer, that’s another drag on discretionary spending and corporate confidence.
MWC Barcelona runs March 2-5, giving AMD and its partners several more chances to put hardware in front of customers — or disappoint on detail. 4
Beyond the show floor, the next hard catalyst is Friday’s U.S. February employment report at 8:30 a.m. ET, which could swing rate expectations and tech valuations in a hurry. 5
