- Google Search users reported “500 Internal Server Error” messages on Tuesday morning.
- Downdetector complaints in India crossed 3,300 around 10:23 a.m. IST, according to local reports.
- Google’s official Search status page showed “No incidents,” leaving the cause and scale unclear.
Google Search was back online for many users on Tuesday after a morning disruption that left some people seeing server-error messages, blank pages or search results that failed to load.
The outage matters because Search remains one of the web’s main gateways. A fault lasting even a short time can hit users, publishers and advertisers quickly, especially in markets such as India where Google is the default search tool for many people.
Users reported a message saying there had been an “internal server error” while processing the request, and that engineers had been notified and were working to resolve it, Times of India reported. The Times of India
Downdetector complaints in India rose sharply around 10:23 a.m. IST and crossed 3,300 at the peak, the Economic Times reported. Most complaints were tied to Search, while some users also reported trouble loading pages or accessing the website itself.
A 500 Internal Server Error usually points to a problem on the service provider’s side, not the user’s phone, browser or home internet connection. In plain English, the request reached the service, but the service failed while handling it.
The disruption did not appear limited to India. Reports also surfaced from the United States, Britain, parts of Europe, the Philippines and other regions, Mint reported, adding that Search later appeared to return for many users.
Google’s own Search Status Dashboard showed “No incidents,” and its Workspace Status Dashboard also listed no incidents as of its last update at 8:56 a.m. UTC. That mismatch left the public record thin: user reports showed disruption, but Google had not posted a broader incident notice. Google Search Status Google
The competitive backdrop is still lopsided. Google held 90.02% of the global search market in April 2026, compared with 5.14% for Microsoft Bing and 0.71% for DuckDuckGo, according to StatCounter.
Search is also central to Alphabet’s revenue base. Google Search and other advertising revenue rose 19% to $60.4 billion in the first quarter of 2026, an Alphabet filing showed.
The risk is that the true size of the outage remains hard to measure. Downdetector numbers are based on user-submitted reports and may not reflect the actual number of affected users, Reuters has noted in coverage of other platform outages.
Google had not disclosed a cause in the reports reviewed. Without that, it is not clear whether the disruption came from a regional routing problem, a backend fault, or another issue inside Search infrastructure.
