Apple’s foldable iPhone leak hints at iPad-style buttons and a monster battery — with “iPhone Flip” talk back

  • A leak hints at a foldable iPhone with volume buttons moved to the top edge and Touch ID built into the power button
  • Another report suggests the battery could reach 5,500 mAh, the largest capacity ever seen in an iPhone
  • The report reveals Apple is developing a clamshell model called the “iPhone Flip” as a possible future release

A recent leak reveals Apple’s first foldable iPhone may feature reworked button placement and internal changes to accommodate a larger battery and display, The Mac Observer reports. The details, sourced from Weibo posts by Instant Digital, describe volume buttons arranged similarly to those on an iPad, plus a battery upgrade.

These details matter because Apple is still missing from the foldable market that Samsung Electronics and Google have led for years. Battery life, weight, and durability have long been the key compromises—and the newest leak throws those challenges into sharp relief.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has floated another idea: Apple is “exploring” a smaller clamshell foldable—a flip-phone that folds vertically—according to 9to5Mac. He stressed this isn’t a sure thing and might never hit shelves, but if it does, it would take on Samsung’s Z Flip line and the relaunched Motorola Razr. 9to5Mac

MacRumors shares a Weibo leak showing volume buttons shifted to the top-right edge, while the Touch ID power button and a separate Camera Control button stay on the right side. The internal layout is described as “stacked,” with no buttons on the left edge. It also reveals a punch-hole selfie camera—a small circular cutout—that could shrink Apple’s “Dynamic Island” area. Around back, expect a black horizontal camera bar, offered in white plus one other color. MacRumors

Fixed Focus Digital revealed in a separate post that the foldable iPhone’s battery capacity tops 5,500 mAh, MacRumors reported — mAh is the unit for battery size. This figure outpaces the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 5,088 mAh and even exceeds some current book-style foldables, such as Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold with 5,015 mAh and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 at 4,400 mAh, the site noted.

Moving the buttons may look like a small tweak, but it’s a big deal for the iPhone, which has kept volume controls on the left side for ages. Placing them on top frees up the sides—a key adjustment in a foldable phone where space is tight and wiring can get messy fast.

Apple’s aiming at a high-end market that’s still finding its footing. The key attraction: larger screens. The trade-offs? Problems with hinges and bulky builds.

Shoppers in this group have gotten sharp on specifics: the creases, how tough the hinges hold up, and what a massive inner screen does to actual battery life. A bigger battery might look good on specs, but it doesn’t always stretch usage when those extra pixels demand more power.

These are still just leaks and early whispers—foldable gadgets tend to face delays or changes. Apple hasn’t officially announced any foldable iPhone, and the so-called “iPhone Flip” remains an exploratory concept, not a confirmed product.

Market analysts say Apple’s entry into foldables could shift the narrative, even without massive sales. In December, IDC’s Francisco Jeronimo called Apple’s first foldable iPhone launch a “turning point” that might spark more interest and awareness in foldables, even if the market remains niche. Leaks so far suggest one thing for Apple fans: if a foldable iPhone ever drops, it won’t just be a standard iPhone bent in half. Apple appears to be crafting the hardware from the ground up to handle the fold.

  • Mont Royal Resources Starts Till Sampling for Gold at Northern Lights Project
July 8, 2026, 8:29 PM EDT. Mont Royal Resources (ASX: MRZ) has started a helicopter-based till sampling program at its Northern Lights project in Québec's James Bay. Crews are collecting 60 samples at the Chateaufort property, which is next to Benz Mining's Eastmain project, known for over 1 million ounces of gold. Sampling, managed by IOS Geosciences, is set to wrap up this month. Results from XRF analysis are expected in August, with a full report due by September. Mont Royal can earn up to a 75% stake in Northern Lights. The project sits in a lithium-pegmatite area, with Rio Tinto and PMET Resources nearby. The survey is expected to help the company refine its exploration focus, confirm gold-copper potential, and back its summer field plans and required spending.
