  • GM to phase out Apple CarPlay across vehicles by 2028, starting with EVs
January 9, 2026, 12:00 PM EST. GM will phase out Apple CarPlay support as part of a multi-year push toward a GM-branded infotainment system. CEO Mary Barra said the company will prioritize electric vehicles in the current window and extend the change across the portfolio over time. The shift began with EVs and is not expected to affect all models immediately; GM has not set a timetable for gas-powered vehicles. The move, seen by some as a revenue play through subscriptions, covers three popular GM models that will ship without CarPlay, including the Chevy Bolt and the Chevy Blazer. GM plans a CarPlay-free future as it expands an in-house system developed with Google, replacing the native experience that many iPhone owners rely on.
