  • Apple's Workout Buddy debuts with on-device intelligence in iOS 26 and watchOS 26
January 24, 2026, 3:22 PM EST. Apple rolled out Workout Buddy with iOS 26 and watchOS 26, a fitness companion that provides spoken feedback and motivation during workouts. Using on-device Apple Intelligence, it analyzes pace, heart rate and distance to deliver real-time cues through connected Bluetooth headphones. It works with the Workout app on Apple Watch and is partially controlled from the Fitness app on iPhone. It is not a full coaching program; it adds cues, tracks weekly totals, flags personal bests and offers a post-workout overview. The feature uses a text-to-speech model trained on Apple Fitness+ trainers and supports running, walking, cycling, HIIT and strength. Requirements include on-device Apple Intelligence, supported iPhone models (iPhone 15 Pro/Max and the iPhone 16 family), watchOS 26, Bluetooth headphones, and English language initially. Enable via the Fitness app by selecting a workout type and turning on Workout Buddy.
