Mortgage rates today: 30-year near 6% as housing stocks slip before Fed minutes
U.S. mortgage rates hovered near 6% Tuesday, with the average 30-year fixed at 6.04%, as builder confidence slipped and homebuilder stocks fell. The NAHB/Wells Fargo index stayed below break-even for a 22nd month. Mortgage applications were flat last week, with more borrowers turning to FHA and adjustable-rate loans. The iShares U.S. Home Construction ETF dropped 1.6% midday.
