Apple and Google Just Made iPhone-to-Android Texts Safer: What iOS 26.5 Changes

Apple and Google began beta rollout of end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging between iPhones and Android phones, starting with iOS 26.5 and the latest Google Messages. The feature requires carrier support and is not available for SMS fallback. AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and several Canadian carriers are included in the initial rollout. Apple says encryption is on by default and marked with a lock icon in chats.
