  • SpaceX says Chinese satellites trigger large number of Starlink collision-avoidance maneuvers
January 24, 2026, 3:20 PM EST. SpaceX disclosed that a small set of Chinese satellites and debris forced its Starlink fleet to carry out a high volume of collision-avoidance maneuvers last year. The company filed the data with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on December 31. Starlink satellites performed 148,696 avoidance actions from June 1 to November 30. Among the top 20 objects requiring adjustments, seven Chinese satellites accounted for 3,732 maneuvers. The disclosures highlight safety concerns tied to rival satellite megaconstellations and the fuel and lifespan costs of repeated evasive maneuvers.
