  • Nvidia urges uninstall of Windows 11 KB5074109 after gaming issues
February 6, 2026, 6:24 PM EST. Nvidia recommends uninstalling the Windows 11 January 2026 security update KB5074109 after reports of gaming instability on GeForce PCs. Users describe framerate drops of 15-20 FPS, artifacts, and black screens; Nvidia says it is investigating. A representative named Manuel wrote on the GeForce Forums that removing KB5074109 seems to restore normal performance as a temporary workaround. The patch is a mandatory update that fixes 114 vulnerabilities and other issues, including NPUs battery drain, but it has caused disruption for some GeForce setups. Microsoft acknowledged the boot problems and offered a recovery path; later, it released KB5074105 to address the black-screen issue, which is optional to install. AMD Radeon users have not reported similar problems at this time.
