  • BYD extends battery warranty to 250,000 kilometres in Europe and UK
January 19, 2026, 8:06 PM EST. BYD has widened its battery warranty to 250,000 kilometres while keeping the eight-year limit intact. The move, from 200,000 km, mainly benefits high-mileage drivers, though the warranty still ends after eight years. Under ideal conditions, about 31,250 km per year would exhaust the warranty. The extension covers all BYD battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, except the eTP3 electric van, as in Norway. The battery warranty remains separate from the standard 6-year/150,000-km vehicle warranty, the 12-year rust-perforation warranty, and the eight-year/150,000-km electric drivetrain guarantee. The SOH cap stays at 70%, so capacity below that level triggers replacement or repair. The change applies in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK and will automatically benefit existing European BYD owners, BYD says.
