Android 16 runs on 7.5% of devices as of December 1, 2025, according to Google’s latest data. Android 15 leads with 19.3%, while Android 14 holds 17.2%. The distribution chart now tracks active devices on Google Play over a seven-day period. Android 4.4 KitKat no longer appears in the statistics.

Google updated release notes for its system services on Jan. 19, highlighting security and reliability improvements for Android devices. Leaks suggest Android 17 may introduce a redesigned notifications panel and separate Wi-Fi and mobile data buttons, but Google has not confirmed these features. The company will now publish Android’s source code twice a year. Rollouts of new features may vary by device and region.

Apple is expected to release iOS 26.3 within days, adding groundwork for encrypted RCS messaging with Android and a new iPhone-to-Android transfer tool, according to media reports. The update may also expand weather wallpapers and include further security fixes. Apple has not confirmed a release date.

A January 2026 Google Play system update is causing issues on Pixel phones, including black screens after reboot and missing user interfaces. Reports cite problems mainly on Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro, with some users also noting delayed notifications. The update appears as 15 MB and still shows a November 2025 patch date after installation. Complaints have surfaced across community forums and tech news sites.

Nothing will begin rolling out its Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0, called “Flow,” to supported phones on November 21, 2025. The update follows weeks of open beta testing and will launch gradually, starting with models including Nothing Phone (2), (2a), (3), and (3a). The company confirmed the date via official channels. Carrier-locked devices may receive the update later.

Code analysis of the latest Android Canary build shows “CINNAMON_BUN” as the internal codename for Android 17. The string appears in system files alongside a placeholder version code 10000. Android 17 is expected to become API level 37 when released. Google has not used dessert names publicly since Android 10.

Samsung’s One UI 8, based on Android 16, began rolling out in mid-September to Galaxy S25, S24, S23, and budget models like A06 and M06. The update brings new lock screen options, enhanced multitasking, deeper AI features, and improved security. Rollout to Galaxy S22 paused briefly due to issues, with S22 Ultra still on hold. Global expansion continues, with completion expected by mid-November.
