Evolution Mining share price jumps 6% as Iran strikes lift gold; EVN dividend date next

Sydney, March 2, 2026, 17:30 (AEDT) — After-hours

  • Evolution Mining ends up about 6.6% at A$17.67, after a 52-week high of A$17.75
  • Gold rises on safe-haven demand after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran
  • EVN trades ex-dividend on March 3 for its 20-cent interim payout

Evolution Mining Limited (ASX:EVN) climbed about 6.6% on Monday and closed at A$17.67, up A$1.09 from the prior close, after hitting a 52-week high of A$17.75. 1

The jump put Evolution among the day’s standout gainers as the S&P/ASX 200 finished flat, with money rotating into oil and gold-linked stocks. Newmont rose about 5.7% and Northern Star gained roughly 4.8% in the same move. 2

Bullion did the heavy lifting. Spot gold was up 1.37% at $5,349.44 an ounce by 0439 GMT, while U.S. futures added 2.21%, after the United States and Israel launched major strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Reuters reported. Kyle Rodda, a senior financial market analyst at Capital.com, said the “dynamic for gold is pretty positive.” 3

Some in the market warned the first reaction can overshoot. Edward Meir, an analyst at Marex, said gold could “open up by about $200/ounce” before fading, while Tim Waterer at KCM Trade said bullion was likely to be “the safe haven asset of choice” if the conflict pulls in more players. 4

Evolution is one of Australia’s larger listed gold miners, with operations spanning Cowal in New South Wales and assets in Queensland and Western Australia, plus the Red Lake mine in Ontario, Canada, according to a Reuters company profile. 5

The rally also lands right in front of a dividend landmark. Evolution has declared an interim dividend of 20 Australian cents a share, fully franked, with the stock set to trade ex-dividend on March 3, a company release showed. “Ex-dividend” means buyers from that date are not entitled to the payout; “fully franked” means the dividend carries Australian tax credits for eligible investors. 6

But the same trade can turn on a headline. If tensions cool or the U.S. dollar firms further, gold can give back ground quickly, and miners tend to move more than the metal.

Another near-term risk is mechanical: shares often drop around the dividend amount when they turn ex-dividend, even if nothing else changes.

Beyond geopolitics, traders are watching U.S. data that can swing rate bets and, by extension, gold. The U.S. Employment Situation report for February is scheduled for Friday, March 6, at 8:30 a.m. ET. 7

Further out, Evolution’s financial calendar shows its March-quarter results are due on April 15, with production and cost updates likely to set the next tone for EVN. 8
