  • Pixel 9 could gain AirDrop-style Quick Share on Android, per Canary build
    January 8, 2026, 11:02 PM EST. In Google's latest Android Canary build (ZP11.251212.007), system files appear to enable Quick Share to work with AirDrop-style transfers between Android and iPhones. The code targets the Pixel 9 series (Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold); the Pixel 9a is not included. Functionality remains non-operational in Canary, signaling further updates or a device whitelist are needed, as was the case when AirDrop landed on the Pixel 10. Google did not extend these files to the Pixel 8 line. If history repeats, a broader rollout could come later, but timing is uncertain and dependent on stability in upcoming builds.
