Mohali, May 5, 2026, 20:43 IST
IISER Mohali has opened applications for 40 non-teaching jobs, setting a June 15 deadline for candidates seeking administrative, technical and support posts at the national science institute. The online application window began on May 3 and closes at 5 p.m. on June 15, recruitment summaries showed.
The timing matters because applicants face two IISER clocks at once. Mohali is running a larger regular recruitment drive, while peer institute IISER Pune has scheduled a May 7 walk-in interview for one Junior Research Fellow, or JRF, a project research post usually held by an early-career science researcher.
The split is important for job seekers: Mohali’s posts are non-teaching campus jobs, while Pune’s opening is a temporary research fellowship tied to a funded project. IISER Mohali’s application portal shows a dedicated “Non Teaching” registration and login route. IISER Mohali ERP
The Education Ministry lists IISER Mohali and IISER Pune among the country’s IISc/IISER institutions, alongside Kolkata, Bhopal, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati and Berhampur. That places the openings inside a small national science-education network, not a routine local hiring round.
At Mohali, “non-teaching” means administrative, engineering, library, IT, laboratory, counselling, nursing, translation, pharmacy, office and support work, rather than faculty jobs. The advertised posts include Superintending Engineer, Deputy Registrar, Deputy Librarian, Senior Technical Officer, Junior Engineer, Junior Technical Assistant, Junior Office Assistant and Attendant. The vacancy list is tilted toward junior and mid-level roles. IISER Mohali is advertising 11 Junior Office Assistant posts in administration, eight Junior Technical Assistant posts and three Junior Office Assistant posts in accounts, while most senior posts carry one vacancy each.
Pay is mapped to the 7th Central Pay Commission, or 7th CPC, the central-government pay matrix used for salary levels. The Mohali vacancies run from Level 1 to Level 13 and include National Pension System coverage; application fees are Rs 1,298 for UR and OBC-NCL candidates, Rs 708 for EWS, and nil for SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and female candidates.
Eligibility varies sharply by post. The Attendant role allows matriculation — class 10 — or a three-year diploma with relevant experience, while Junior Office Assistant requires a bachelor’s degree threshold and office skills; higher posts such as Superintending Engineer require a civil engineering degree and years of service.
Selection is not yet a single fixed path. IISER Mohali may use written tests, skill tests or interviews depending on the post, and the examination scheme and syllabus are to be announced later through the institute website.
Pune’s opening is narrower and more immediate. Its official Advertisement No. 25/2026, dated April 28, invites one JRF for the project “Self-Powered Hydrogen Decarbonization Process with Integrated Desalination,” funded by Technology I Hub Foundation, IIT Palakkad.
The Pune post pays Rs 37,000 a month plus 30% house rent allowance and has a 28-year age limit. Applicants need an M.Sc. in General Chemistry with a CGPA above 6.5 or equivalent grades, along with a valid CSIR-NET, GATE, DBT-JRF or other national-level test score.
Candidates for the Pune walk-in must report at 11 a.m. on May 7 at Seminar Room No. 31, Main Building, IISER Pune; the notice says candidates arriving after 11:30 a.m. will not be considered. Applicants must carry the filled application form, original documents, self-attested photocopies, government photo ID and a recent passport-size photograph.
But there are clear limits. Mohali candidates who meet the minimum eligibility may still not get called for a test or interview, while Pune’s JRF appointment is temporary, ends with the project and gives no claim to absorption in the funding agency or IISER Pune.
