The Falcon 9 rocket will carry about 40 payloads, including Pandora, a 716-pound spacecraft with a 17-inch telescope to study at least 20 exoplanets during a yearlong mission. Pandora will observe transits, when a planet crosses its star, to measure dips in brightness. By operating in visible light and infrared, researchers hope to separate the star's spectrum from the planet's, accounting for star spots and atmospheric signatures. The mission is part of SpaceX's Twilight rideshare; the booster is expected to land at Vandenberg about 8.5 minutes after liftoff. Livestreams via SpaceX's site and X begin ~15 minutes before launch.
