  • NTIA approves $170 million BEAD plan to expand Nevada broadband
January 9, 2026, 7:50 PM EST. LAS VEGAS - Nevada won approval for more than $170 million in the broadband expansion program BEAD after the National Telecommunications and Information Administration gave a final green light. Gov. Joe Lombardo's office said the BEAD award is part of a $416 million state plan to expand high-speed internet to underserved areas, reaching more than 28,000 homes, businesses and community institutions with a mix of fiber, hybrid fiber-coax, fixed wireless and satellite connections. The approval unlocks the initial tranche; another $65 million will come from private investment, and $150 million from the American Rescue Plan Act and the Capital Projects Fund. Nevada has earmarked $275 million for middle-mile projects, and about $200 million will remain for future BEAD use as federal guidance is awaited.
