  • IXI's autofocusing glasses near-ready to replace multifocal lenses
January 9, 2026, 3:44 AM EST. IXI is pushing autofocusing glasses designed for age-related farsightedness. In Las Vegas, the startup showed a 22-gram prototype frame and working lenses that automatically switch prescriptions as the eye shifts focus. The system uses eye tracking with infrared LEDs and photodiodes around the lens edge, not a camera, to monitor movement, blinking and gaze. It draws about 4 milliwatts of power and stores most electronics-memory, sensors and driving circuitry-in the front frame and near the hinge. A battery the size of AirPods sits in the arms; charging is via a port in the left hinge, so the glasses can't be worn while charging. IXI targets a full day of use with a discreet, normal appearance.
