Apple restored access to its App Store and Apple TV services late Tuesday after an outage interrupted downloads, purchases and streaming for some users, according to Apple’s system-status updates. App Store Connect, TestFlight and Xcode Cloud — tools developers use to submit and test apps — were also affected. 1
The glitches were brief, but they hit the storefront Apple uses to sell apps and in‑app subscriptions, and the streaming and music services it markets against Netflix and Spotify. Outages can leave users unable to rent a film, update an app or finish a purchase when traffic is high.
Developers watch these outages closely. When Apple’s back-end tools hiccup, releases can stall, and bug fixes sit in limbo even if the iPhone app itself still opens.
Apple’s status page began flagging problems around 6:48 p.m. ET, listing outages for the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple TV and Apple TV Channels, the add-on service that lets customers subscribe to third-party channels inside the Apple TV app. Apple warned some users could be unable to access services or make purchases. 2
The incident spread beyond shopping and streaming. Apple later marked issues with services including iMessage and iCloud Mail, and listed problems with Maps Traffic — the feed that powers live congestion in Apple Maps — along with Apple Photos and iWork for iCloud, the web versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote, AppleInsider reported. 3
Some Apple TV+ viewers said the service would not play shows, and Apple warned that users “may be experiencing intermittent issues with this service” and could be unable to “access multiple services and stores or make purchases,” according to the status message. Apple later marked the issue as resolved by about 11:04 p.m. ET and did not say what caused the glitch. 4
Downdetector, an outage-tracking site that collects user reports, also logged a jump in Apple Music complaints Tuesday night, topping 1,000 reports just after 8 p.m. ET, according to a Reuters-tagged Economic Times report. The same report said Apple’s status page did not list Apple Music as officially down even as it showed disruptions for other services. 5
Downdetector also posted on X that user reports pointed to problems with Apple Music starting around 7:01 p.m. ET. 6
But the scale of an outage like this can be hard to pin down in real time. Apple’s status page reflects issues the company has confirmed, while crowd-sourced trackers can swing sharply; even after services are marked “resolved,” logins and purchases can stay spotty as apps retry connections.
