  • Eutelsat orders 340 OneWeb satellites from Airbus to refresh LEO network
January 12, 2026, 10:22 PM EST. Eutelsat has placed an order with Airbus for 340 satellites to refresh and extend its OneWeb low-Earth-orbit network, the companies said on Monday. The satellites will gradually swap out older vehicles to keep the service running as they age. OneWeb's initial constellation launched six years ago and later merged with Eutelsat in 2023. The fresh order, alongside 100 satellites ordered in December 2024, brings the total contracted fleet to 440. Deliveries are expected to begin by the end of 2026. No price was disclosed; previous estimates put the extension at about €2 to €2.2 billion through 2029, contingent on EU IRIS² timing. The move underscores Europe's push to compete with Starlink, a key driver in a wider push for home and enterprise broadband via LEO satellites.
