National Grid plc seals £3 billion Eastern Green Link 4 contracts ahead of RIIO-3 start

National Grid plc and SP Energy Networks on Monday locked in £3 billion of major supply-chain deals for Eastern Green Link 4, a 2-gigawatt subsea cable project running between Scotland and England—one of five east coast links aimed at clearing grid congestion. Siemens Energy is tapped for the HVDC converter stations, while Prysmian will deliver the cable system. Timing is key here. Britain’s RIIO-3, the next five-year price-control cycle that determines how much network owners can earn, kicks off April 1. Earlier in the month, National Grid raised its investment target to at least £70 billion by March 2031, signed off on Ofgem’s RIIO-T3 transmission deal, and projected earnings-per-share growth between 13% and 15% for fiscal 2027. Deutsche Börse Weekly Wrap: DAX Posts Worst Week in a Year as Oil Shock Hits Frankfurt

Germany’s DAX dropped to 23,591.03 Friday, marking a 6.7% slide from last week’s 25,284 close—a loss not seen in about a year. The STOXX 600 shed 5.5%, while Frankfurt and Paris both logged their steepest weekly falls since April last year. This shift is significant—investors are juggling weaker growth signals with rising energy costs. February’s U.S. nonfarm payrolls dropped by 92,000, missing forecasts for a 59,000 gain. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.4%. Brent crude finished at $92.69, after briefly hitting its highest mark since September 2023.

Siemens Energy’s $1 billion U.S. bet: new Mississippi switchgear plant taps AI power boom

Siemens Energy is set to pump $1 billion into expanding its U.S. production of power-grid and gas-turbine parts, responding to a surge in demand from AI-focused data centres. The investment includes a new power-grid equipment plant in Mississippi, which CEO Christian Bruch described as the company’s largest globally, with completion targeted for 2028. While Big Tech continues to pour hundreds of billions into data centres, the sector faces equipment shortages and permitting delays, driving a flurry of power-related deals. The investment comes as utilities and policymakers race to model data-centre energy demands. According to a Congressional Research Service report, data centres consumed roughly 176 terawatt-hours in 2023—about 4.4% of total U.S. electricity use—with some forecasts suggesting that could climb to
