Oppo is set to debut the Pad Mini and Pad 5 Pro on April 21, 7 p.m. China time, bringing both a small Android tablet and a more premium flagship model to the stage at once. Company posts are framing the launch as a two-pronged flagship release.
Chinese brands are shifting focus back to compact, premium tablets, moving away from the 11-inch and 13-inch segment that dominated in recent years. “Gaming tablets were a niche growth category, especially in Asia,” Omdia’s Himani Mukka noted. The research group put global tablet shipments up 9.8% in 2025, their highest annual mark since 2020. Omdia
Oppo’s listings in China are now putting the Pad Mini on display in both standard and soft-light variants—the latter featuring a glare-cutting screen. Buyers can pick up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage configurations. According to ITHome, which referenced Oppo’s official pages, the company confirmed a 2.5K OLED display, a Snapdragon 8-series flagship chip, and three color options: Monet Purple, Mint Green, and Space Gray.
Oppo’s director of smart ecosystem products, Qiao Jiadong, has dropped hints about the company’s smaller tablet through a series of Weibo videos. One video put a centered punch-hole front camera and balanced bezels on display. Meanwhile, several tech sites have compiled leaks suggesting an 8.8-inch OLED screen, 144Hz refresh rate for fluid performance, an 8,000mAh battery, fast 67W charging, and a slim build at 5.39mm thick and 279 grams.
Oppo’s store page for the Pad 5 Pro calls out the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a 3.4K screen, and ColorOS 16—its newest Android flavor. Teaser images add a first look at optional keyboard and stylus add-ons. According to ITHome, which references both official details and a China Telecom listing, the tablet is expected in Dawn Gold, Mocha Brown, and Monet Purple. There’s talk of a 13.2-inch display and a 13,380mAh battery, although ITHome notes that some specs in the databases might not reflect what ships.
With that roster, Oppo joins a space already crowded by Apple’s iPad mini—8.3-inch screen, A17 Pro chip—plus Xiaomi’s Pad Mini and Lenovo’s Legion Tab, both with 8.8-inch displays. Lenovo is pitching the Legion Tab squarely at gamers.
It’s not shaping up to be a smooth launch. Back in March, IDC lowered its 2026 tablet shipment outlook by 7.6%, citing ongoing memory shortages, pricier components, and tight supply chains. “The era of bargain-priced PCs and tablets is behind us for now,” said Jitesh Ubrani, research manager at IDC. As of this day, Oppo’s store listings for both new tablets still read “coming soon,” and there’s no word yet on pricing. IDC
April 21 is shaping up to be more than just a tablet launch for Oppo. The two tablets are set to debut with the Find X9 Ultra, Find X9s Pro, Watch X3 Mini, and Enco Clip 2, expanding the event into a broader showcase of the company’s ecosystem.
