Orders for its Power Systems division rose about 50% year-on-year in Q1, reaching a £7.3 billion backlog. Shares closed Friday at 1,218.26 pence, down 3.24% on the day but above pre-AGM levels.

Glencore’s South African ferrochrome unit delayed a layoff decision to April 7 after Eskom requested more time to finalize approval of a discounted electricity deal. The company says 1,500 jobs are at risk without a 62 South African cents/kWh tariff. Only 11 of 66 smelters remain in operation as power prices have surged over 900% since 2008. Any new deal still requires approval from the national energy regulator.
