Petrol, Diesel Price Hike Alert: IOC, BPCL, HPCL Lose ₹1 Lakh Crore as Crude Shock Deepens

India’s state fuel retailers have absorbed over ₹1 lakh crore in under-recoveries in 10 weeks as global crude prices surged, while pump rates stayed unchanged on May 11. Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL are losing up to ₹1,700 crore daily. Prime Minister Modi urged fuel conservation amid pressure on foreign reserves. The government has not announced a retail price hike.

A January 2024 study in Nature Communications reported an aluminum–sulfur battery retaining 85.4% capacity after 1,400 cycles at 85°C. In October 2024, Lyten announced plans for a Li–S battery gigafactory in Nevada. Aluminum-air batteries demonstrated a 1,100-mile range in a 2014 Phinergy car. Li–S cells have reached energy densities up to 500 Wh/kg in labs.
