Gold-silver rally turns on Fed hike odds as weak jobs data trims upside math

Gold-silver rally turns on Fed hike odds as weak jobs data trims upside math

U.S. metals futures had not begun the regular Sunday evening session at the article time after CME Group listed an Independence Day schedule running across July 2-6. CME lists NYMEX and COMEX ClearPort hours as Sunday 5 p.m. to Friday 4 p.m. CT, with a daily reporting break. Gold and silver held their post-payroll gains into the holiday weekend, but the cleaner investor signal was not the size of the bounce. It was where the bounce left prices against fresh bank targets. At late-Friday levels, gold was only about 3% below JPMorgan’s third-quarter forecast and less than 8% below its fourth-quarter forecast, while silver was already inside JPMorgan’s $60-$65 average range.

Why Citi’s $52mn Vis Raghavan Hire From JPMorgan Is Suddenly Under Scrutiny

Citigroup’s $52mn move to bring in Vis Raghavan from JPMorgan Chase is facing renewed questions. According to the FT, Citi offered him the position before his exit from JPMorgan had been made public. That’s significant: Raghavan isn’t just any new face. Citi put him in charge of Banking and named him executive vice-chair. He’ll answer directly to Jane Fraser and oversee investment, corporate, and commercial banking—areas Fraser still has to strengthen if Citi wants a shot at catching up with larger Wall Street competitors.

Lloyds tipped as front-runner for Aegon UK business as bidders circle

Lloyds Banking Group plc has emerged as the frontrunner after the opening bids for Aegon’s UK arm, according to Financial News, which cited sources close to the talks. Both Phoenix Group and Canada Life have submitted initial proposals too. The business could fetch anywhere from 1 billion to 1.5 billion pounds. Final bids are expected next month, with a decision likely by April. Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are on advisory duty. The prospective buyers declined to comment, Financial News noted. The shift is significant—banks are chasing more fee revenue from wealth and pensions, with the tailwind from rising interest rates starting to dissipate. Back in February, NatWest signed off on a £2.7 billion purchase of Evelyn Partners. RBC Capital Markets
