IEA’s 2030 LNG Warning Is Pushing NextDecade to Charter More Ships

The IEA said the Iran war has removed about 120 billion cubic metres of global LNG supply from 2026-2030. NextDecade plans to charter more LNG carriers for its Rio Grande project as shipping risks rise and long-term contracts return. European Union gas storage is 30% below its five-year average. NextDecade expects first LNG from Rio Grande in early 2027.

Woodside Energy Group Gas Tax Warning Puts LNG Growth Plans On The Line

Woodside Energy warned Australian senators a proposed 25% gas export tax could make new projects unviable, adding to existing company and resource taxes. CEO Liz Westcott said Scarborough LNG remains on track for late 2026. Industry groups argued the levy would hurt investment, while supporters claimed it could raise A$17 billion a year. Shell Plc Eyes 20 Trillion Cubic Feet of Venezuela Gas as LNG Crunch Tightens

Shell is in advanced talks with Venezuela to access about 20 trillion cubic feet of offshore gas reserves near Trinidad and Tobago, sources said. The company aims to supply Trinidad’s Atlantic LNG plant, which ran below capacity in 2025 due to gas shortages. Shell confirmed interest in the Loran field and could decide on the Dragon project by year-end. Chevron is expected to exit some blocks, while Russian interests remain in two areas.

Venture Global seeks U.S. approval for 35 mtpa Plaquemines LNG exports after Qatar halt tightens market

Venture Global has asked the U.S. Department of Energy to raise Plaquemines LNG plant’s export cap to 35 million metric tons per year, up from 27.2 mtpa. The request follows Qatar’s abrupt production halt, which tightened global LNG supply. Venture Global shipped 16.4 million metric tons from Plaquemines in 2025 and expects up to 371 cargoes in 2026. Legal disputes with BP and Shell remain unresolved.
